Federal Minister for Counter Narcotics Muhammad Azam Khan Swati presided over a consultative meeting of psychologists, heads of social organizations and heads of drug rehabilitation centers. The participants discussed drugs situation in Islamabad especially control of narcotics in educational institutions.
The Federal Minister said that the drug menace, which is spreading rapidly in our country, is more dangerous than Corona (Covid-19) because it is affecting the younger generation. "We all have to work together to fight this epidemic with determination," he said.
He said that the efforts of social organizations for eradication of drugs are commendable and social organizations have done a lot of in this field.
Federal Minister Muhammad Azam Swati directed the advisory committee to come up with a comprehensive plan within a week for drug eradication and drug de-addiction and rehabilitation of drug addicts so that it could be implemented soon. He said that awareness program will be re-launched.
The Federal Minister said in the meeting that a few days ago he visited the Model Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (MATRC) Islamabad and saw the drug addicted patients there and most of them were young.
The Federal Minister said that MATRC would further upgrade Islamabad so that more patients could be treated in it.
