Balochistan is the future of organic cotton. This was said by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhar Imam on Monday while chairing the meeting on working of Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department (FSC&RD).The briefing was given by DG FSC&RD, Mr. Iftikhar Haider. Syed Fakhar Imam added that vibrant, pure and organic agriculture is handicapped. Seed system is the foundation if agriculture. He appreciated the work of FSC&RD and said tgat this department will be the key to best seed system in the world. He advocated that Rahim Yar Kan is the pearl of production of seed as 70% if country's best seed is from Rahim Yar Khan. He also asked FSC&RD to get Pakistani products branded with IPO.
Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department is an attached department of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research with its headquarters at Islamabad and 27 Field Offices/Laboratories throughout Pakistan. FSC&RD is a third party department with the mandate to regulate quality of seeds of various crops under the legal provisions of the Seed Act 1976, Seed (Amendment) Act, 2015 and the related rules and regulations. FSC&RD also acts as executive arm of the National Seed Council. FSC&RD achieved international accre status for central seed testing lab in July 2019 from ISTA, Switzerland. FSC&RD has started certification support to seed export.
