Ways of implementing the compensation package on fertilizers have been discussed with the provinces.The statement was made by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhr Imam, during a meeting of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Agricultural Products at Parliament House on Wednesday.The meeting was presided over by Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser.
The Federal Minister said that under the agricultural package, farmers would be compensated on fertilizer.In this regard, 2 meetings have been held with the provinces and fertilizer manufacturers.Each province should formulate a transparent mechanism through which farmers will be given a subsidy of Rs. 37 billion on the purchase of fertilizers.During the meeting, Syed Fakhr Imam thanked Federal Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and PIA for keeping very reasonable freight rates for mango expland .He further said that all possible facilities should be provided for the export of mangoes to Iran by land routes.The federal minister said that 28,000 tonnes of mangoes were exported last year, while 4,000 tonnes have been exported so far this year.Mango exports will be maximized this year.He also added that tube wells can be transfered to solar energy for increasing efficiency of agriculture.For this Ministry of Food Security and Research will make a feasibility.
