An emergency meeting was held between Federal Minister for Law and Justice Barrister Muhammad Farogh Naseem and Mr. Saeed Jadoon (Chief F&C) Federal Board of Revenue to finalize the implementation mechanism for Covid-19 (Prevention of Smuggling) Ordinance 2020 on Thursday.
During the meeting it was decided that anti-smuggling powers would be delegated to FC KP (north and South), FC Balochistan (North & South), Pakistan Rangers (Punjab & Sind) and Pakistan Coast Guards. These powers would be 5 km area of the international borders and for the scheduled items as given in the ordinance which mainly comprises of food commodities, foreign currency and essential medicines.
The concerned law enforcement agencies would also share details of the seizures with FBR fortnightly.
The notifications for implementation of the mechanism under this ordinance would be issued on Monday 4 May 2020 and would be effective from the same date.
