DRAP acts against overpricing of personal protection equipment against corona virus in the country Raids conducted across the country; stocks of overpriced Corona virus protection equipment identified as not to dispose of Stocks of surgical masks in 5 stores at Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar seized for overpricing; cases registered as per law

Spokesperson of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan told that a country wide raid has been conducted against the elements who are selling overpriced personal protection equipment (PPE) against coronavirus. DRAP has initiated strict surveillance of market for selling overpriced PPE on direction of SAPM, Dr. Zafar Mirza and against complaints by general public. DRAP published a public notice in various newspaper on 15th February 2020 to prohibit the overpricing of these equipment. Public was encouraged to file complaints against such elements who are selling face masks, googles, face shields, Tyvek suits, gloves etc. on higher prices than that of December 2019. Subsequently, Federal Inspectors of Drugs were directed to visit various medical stores, distributors and pharmacy stores to survey the prices of PPE such as N95 masks, surgical masks, face shields, googles and other equipment used for protection against coronavirus. In today’s activity 5 cases have been registered during raids by FIDs in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar. Stocks of overpriced face masks were seized and declared not to dispose of. It is again informed to all the concerned that DRAP is adamant at ensuring availability of such necessary items for protection of public health and elements involved in heinous crimes of illegal profiteering over serious issues will be penalized as per law.
