Federal minister for IPC, Dr Fehmida Mirza, chaired a meeting conducted in the committee room of the Ministry, to review the overall security arrangements being made prior to the upcoming Davis Cup tie, which is going to be held in Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad, on 6th and 7th March. Secretary IPC, Muhammad Ali Shehzada, Director General,Pakistan Sports Board,Madam Amna Imran, President Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Salim Saifullah Khan and others attended the meeting.
Minister stressed that joint efforts of the Ministry and PTF should result in to making Davis Cup Tie a “Mega Event”. Moreover, she assured that all support would be extended from the Ministry to make it happen. She further added that Pakistani players have always given tremendous performances and made the country proud in all the international sports events. Hence, she prayed that this time again the hardwork of Pakistani players would produce fruitful results.
President PTF described in detail all the security arrangements that are being finalized before the finale of Davis Cup Tie. He assured the Minister that all security arrangements are in place and international security agencies have also given security clearance. Besides this, the members of the security agencies including police and rangers who were present in the meeting gave a detailed description that how they would make sure that no untoward incident would happen during the days of arrival of a foreign team.
PTF president apprised the members that 7 players from Slovenia’s team would come to Pakistan and their stay in Pakistan would last for a week approximately. While concluding the meeting, Salim Saifullah formally extended invitation to the Minister to be the chief guest and inaugurate the opening ceremony of the Davis Cup Tie, which she accepted.
