The Spokesperson of Law Ministry has clarified a news report, carried by a section of press alluding that Ministry of Law and Justice, failed to utilize funds worth Rs. 6.86m, meant to prevent violence against children, according to an audit report of year 2014-2015.
The spokesperson clarified that during the year 2014-2015, Law, Justice and Human Rights were one Ministry under the name Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights. Violence against children is a subject matter of Ministry of Human Rights and decision regarding the funds, their utilization and the steps taken to prevent violence against children lies with the Ministry of Human Rights and not Ministry of Law and Justice.
Report also asserts that the Secretary Law and Justice Mr. Khashihur Rehman failed to explain the reasons for unspent grant of Rs.1.7bn of the Ministry during the same period at the meeting of subcommittee of PAC. The assertion is not factually correct as the reply by the Law Secretary was satisfactory. He explained that Rs. 1.7b was surrendered to the Finance Division within the given time limit, owing to which the subcommittee of PAC settled the audit observation.
