Two key Ordinances of the Ministry of Law and Justice were laid before the National Assembly on Thursday as required by clause (2) of Article 89 of the Constitution. The Ordinances included Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019 and the National Accountability (Second) Amendment Ordinance, 2019.
The Enforcement of Women Property Rights (Amendment) Ordinance will pave the way, for women to file complaints to the Ombudsperson, in case they are deprived of ownership or possession of their property.
The National Accountability (Second Amendment) Ordinance will be helpful to distinguish between misuse of authority and an act done in good faith by a public office holder. The Ordinance will prevent establishment of an offence against a public office holder, in the absence of corroborative evidence of accumulation of any monetary benefit or asset disproportionate to known sources of income.
Both the Ordinances have been referred to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.
