The Federal Minister for Interior Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmad Shah was addressing the launching event of Project "Terrorism Prevention Branch" as Chief Guest.
Terrorism Prevention Branch is a mutual project of UNODC and the Ministry of Interior that primarily aims at elimination of terrorism activities from country. While addressing a gathering at this occassion the Federal Minister for Interior, Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmad Shah said that we are determined to eradicate terrorism from our society and achieve a peaceful society. I am hopeful that execution of this project will help us progress towards reaching the desired level of peace and harmony in the country, he added.
"It is one of our topmost priority as a government" the Minister said. In continuation to this, he said that there is a stark difference between the concept of terrorism and routine crimes that take place in a society. He added that terrorism not only utilizes more resources but also aims at greater incentives and needs motivation to make individuals become part of such activities. Having said this, let me emphasize that awareness and educating people in our society is very significant in eliminating terrorism, he explained. The Federal Minister for Interior Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmad Shah said that it is almost impossible to get rid of this menace without creating awareness.
"Keeping my experience with Army and the Law Enforcing Agencies, My advice to UNODC would be that some part of the available fund should be utilized for creating awareness and educating people" Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmad Shah said. I think this will be quite fruitful in longer run and in ensuring the success of the project. He concluded his speech with the hope that the Ministry of Interior and UNODC will be able to achieve the desired targets that are set under this project.
