Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar chaired a meeting on Islamabad water supply issues here in Islamabad on Wednesday. Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jhanzeb Khan, Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan, Chairman CDA Amer Ali Ahmed and senior officials participated in the meeting.
The meeting discussed water scarcity in Islamabad and remedial measures including short term interventions for improvement of existing water supply in Islamabad.
Asad umar directed the Ministry of Interior to take immediate action for repair/ maintenance works of Metropolitan water supply projects and maintenance related works of water treatment plants, pipelines, valves and water tankers. He also directed that the proposed project for supply of water to Islamabad from Barotha may be expedited.
The Minister further directed the CDA/MCI to strengthen the project management unit with highly qualified staff having technical experties for execution of various projects.
