The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in its last two meetings in October allowed Pakistan Agriculture Storage & Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO) allowed 0.90million tons of wheat to KPK, Sindh and Balochistan, of which 0.4 million tons is for Sindh, 0.450 million tons for KPK and 0.05 million tons to Balochistan will be transported.
The PASSCO has started the subject release from its surplus stocks of wheat stock.
The first phase of transportation started yesterday, November 10, 2019 which carried 250 metric tons of wheat from Khanewal and Vihari godowns of PASSCO. Today almost 600 metric tons of wheat would be carried from Khanewal, Vehari, Burewala and Bahawalnagar PASSCO zones. The transportation of wheat to Sindh is likely to be started today from Hyderabad and Khairpur.
Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan has directed PASSCO to rigorously pursue the transportation to avoid any emergency situation. The Federal Ministry of National Food Security & Research is in close liaison with the department and is updated about the movement of consignments to the provinces.
It is pertinent to mention that the transpiration of wheat to Balochistan is likely to be started soon.Dispatch of wheat to KPK will be made from 6 PASSCO zones, comprising Alipur, Multan Zone, Khanewal, Vehari, Burewala and Bahawalnagar.
