Spokesperson of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) informed that DRAP steps up by getting its Quality Management System (QMS) certified by SGS United Kingdom Ltd. DRAP’s ISO 9001:2015 certified management system is one of the many steps towards international accreditations such as World Health Organization Global Benchmarking for National Regulatory Authorities, membership of Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation/Scheme (PIC/S) and WHO accreditation of its central drug testing laboratory at Karachi. With this certification, standard operating procedures of DRAP, timeframes for application processing, complaint management system and strategies to implement a robust and efficient management system have been streamlined. QMS certification will also facilitate DRAP in attaining maturity level III in WHO Global benchmarking in addition to strengthening of its regulatory functions in order to promote and prevent public health by ensuring availability of quality assured, safe and efficacious therapeutic goods in the country. Much needed certified quality management system in DRAP will facilitate manufacturers and importers of therapeutic goods for getting timely response from DRAP regarding the regulatory documentations required for local availability as well as import and export of pharmaceutical products. DRAP’s vision includes strengthening of the institutional capacity and increasing international acceptance as a measure of its stringent regulations to safeguard availability of medicines as an essential part of public health. The Authority is endeavoring to adopt international best practices and strategizing to enhance the capacity of pharma industry of Pakistan to boost pharmaceutical exports. ****
