To mark the auspicious occasion of 73rd Independence Day of Pakistan, a Flag Hoisting ceremony was held at the Embassy of Pakistan, Tunis . Messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out on this occasion. Members of Pakistani community and their families, as well as Tunisian friends of Pakistan attended the ceremony. Ambassador of Pakistan to Tunisia, Mr. Muhammad Hassan, unfurled the Pakistani flag to the tunes of National Anthem. On this occasion, the Ambassador felicitated the community in Tunisia and all Pakistanis around the world. He paid glowing tributes to the untiring struggle of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and other heroes of the Pakistan Movement, says a press release received here today from Tunis. The Ambassador stated that while Pakistanis around the world were celebrating this auspicious day, the people of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoK) were facing the worst kind of repression at the hands of Indian occupation forces. The Government of Pakistan has therefore declared the day as the day of solidarity with the Kashmiri people. The Ambassador condemned the ongoing repression and the gross human rights abuses in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK). He stated that Pakistan would continue its political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Kashmir till they achieve their right to self-determination. While referring to the atrocities committed by the Indian occupation forces in Kashmir, the Ambassador highlighted the reign of terror unleashed by the occupation forces against the innocent Kashmiris. He stressed that it was the responsibility of the international community to take notice of the atrocities being committed by the Indian forces in Kashmir and to support the unalienable right to self-determination as promised to them by the UN Security Council seventy years ago. The Ambassador further stated that India was hell bent upon changing the demographic composition of IoK and converted Muslims into a minority. He also urged the international community to persuade India for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute according to the terms of UN Security Council resolutions. The ceremony concluded with a ‘dua’ for those who sacrificed their lives during the independence struggle as well for those who laid their lives for the defence of their motherland after independence including those in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
