PR No. 17 MINISTER FOR LAW PARTICIPATED 34TH SESSION OF UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL Islamabad

Mr. Zahid Hamid, Minister for Law and Justice, participated the High Level Segment of the 34thSession of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The Law Minister addressed the Human Rights Council on 01 March, 2017.He elaborated the initiatives taken by the government of Pakistan to improve the human rights conditions.

The Minister hosted a Reception in the United Nations Office Geneva (UNOG) to introduce Dr. Sania Nishtar, Pakistan’s candidate for the Director General World Health Organization (WHO).It is pertinent to mention here that Dr. Nishtar has been selected as one of the top three nominees short-listed for this position by the WHO Executive Board in January 2017.

The Law Minister stated in his introductory remarks that the Government of Pakistan is proud to propose the name of Dr Nishtar as she fulfils all the requisite qualifications and experience to head WHO, the sole UN specialized agency dealing with health care and health issues. Zahid Hamid said that her wide-ranging experience and multi-faceted professional attributes make her the candidate of choice for both developed and developing countries. Minister remarked that Dr Nishtar with her astute multilateral leadership skills will reestablish WHO as the world’s pre-eminent health agency.
