Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said that ultimate goal of Pakistan is to develop zero waste circular economy under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistan will send a delegation to Finland to study Finnish model of afforestation and circular economy. Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ambitious project of planting ten billion trees is a project of global importance. This was said by him during a meeting with Finland’s Ambassador to South Asia, H.E. HarriKamarainen. Finnish Ambassador called on Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam in his office on Monday and offered to a vast spectrum of cooperation in the fields of circular economy, solid and liquid waste management, afforestation, climate change and green economy. Ambassador said that the Finland was greatly impressed by Pakistan’s efforts with climate change and Prime Minister of Pakistan’s global vision of cutting greenhouse gases. He told that Finland’s current government was very enthusiastic about climate change and leading the agenda with the whole European Union. Finland had performed marvelous job in protecting the forest cover and their sustainable use by developing technology and innovation. He also introduced shopping bag made of peptic fiber to replace conventional plastic bags, which were widely being used in Finland. He apprised the Adviser about the new technologies and advancement in the field of environment in the form of environmentally sustainable products like cotton and construction material made out of cellulose. Adviser to the Prime Minister admired Finland’s achievements in this regard and showed his keenness to learn from Finnish model by cooperation. He told that in the first phase Pakistan wanted Islamabad to go waste-free by developing a circular economy. Furthermore, a Finnish company was already interested in this project. Pakistan was the only developing country which was heavily investing in afforestation and that Pakistan would plant 10 Billion Trees with a cost of $1Billion. He also apprised that how Pakistan had established Ecosystem Restoration Fund and other friendly countries were keen to invest in that fund. He told that Pakistan had set a target of 30% electric vehicles by 2030 and that EV policy was on cards. Mr. Aslam told that it was National Sustainable Development Strategy which provided that national roadmap for 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project. Ambassador offered technological cooperation to Pakistan in all fields of environment protection and climate change having a vast range of innovations in this area. He told that currently Finland’s 40% energy came through renewables but they plan to go carbon neutral by 2035 and carbon negative beyond that. He also finalized the details of the delegation visiting Finland in the first week of October this year. He also informed that Finland would encourage climate change experts to Finland. ***** ?
