H.E. Mr. Ismatullo Naserdin, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan called on the Hon’ble Minister for NFS&R on 9th May, 2019 here in Islamabad. Pakistan has good brotherly relations with Tajikistan. The Prime Minister of Pakistan paid an official visit to the Tajikistan on June 9-10, 2015. An Agreement on cooperation in the field of agriculture has also been signed between two sides on 8th March, 2011 during the period of defunct. The 5th Session of Pak-Tajik Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) was held in Pakistan on 15-16 June, 2016 wherein it was agreed that the two sides would collaborate in the agreed areas as Joint Working Group (JWG) would be formed. The Tajik Ambassador told the Minister that this JWG meeting is likely to be held on 2nd of July, 2019 as part of Joint Commission Meeting between the two countries. The Federal Minister Mehboob Sultan said that our Government has assigned priority to the agriculture sector and is focusing on enhancing cooperation in this field – particularly expanding our trade in agricultural commodities. The Minister further said that we are not only self-sufficient in wheat but have surpluses in wheat, sugar and rice. We are also producing citrus and mangoes of high quality that the Tajik side may like to import from us. The Minister added that our cooperation in the agricultural field will also provide an opportunity to strengthen our economic relations in this area by facilitating Sanitary & Phyto-Sanitary Measures and this will benefit to both sides. The Tajik Ambassador appreciated the role of Federal Minister for Agriculture.
