PR No. 35 Child repatriated from Saudi Arabia by Overseas Ministry Islamabad, May 06, 2019

A three years old Pakistani child, Shema bibi, has been freed and repatriated to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia. Shema Bibi went to Saudi Arabia along with her parents, Swat residents, a year ago on Umrah Visa. The family was arrested at Jeddah airport on recovery of drugs and was tried by the Saudi authorities as per the law of the land. The couple together had brought around 100 capsules filled with heroin in their abdomen. Zulfikar Bukhari, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development tasked Managing Director Overseas Pakistanis Foundation, Dr. Amer Sheikh, and Community Welfare Attaché Jeddah with the responsibility to resolve the case of the Pakistani family. The parents of Shema Bibi were convicted on the recovery of drugs. However, Shema Bibi was released by the Saudi authorities after negotiations with the Pakistani mission. Father of Shema Bibi is to be executed, while mother will remain imprisoned for eighteen (18) years at Reform jail Dhahban near Jeddah. As a result of the efforts of the Pakistani Mission in Jeddah, Shema Bibi was taken into custody yesterday May 5, 2019. The child has been brought back to Pakistan today on 6th May, 2019 through PIA Flight PK-742 from Jeddah to Islamabad. Zulfikar Bukhari praised the efforts of the MD OPF and CWA Jeddah and at the same time expressed sorrow for the innocent child who has lost her parents. On the occasion, he said that we are trying our best to stop these kinds of incidents from happening. We do not know the circumstances under which people are being forced to commit such acts, he added. He expressed best wishes for the child and instructed OPF Head to make arrangements for her wellbeing. ***** ?
