Federal Inspector of Drugs (FID) raided warehouse of a pharma company in Islamabad and seized 7 medicines on overpricing. Federal Minister of Health Aamer Mehmood Kiani along with CEO DRAP were present at site. Aamer Mehmood Kiyani said that unauthorized increase in prices of medicines is a violation of Law and DRAP has been directed to take strict action against manufacturers printing higher prices than the notified Maximum Retail Prices (MRPs) In continuation to a nationwide crackdown on overpricing/ unauthorized increase in prices of medicines, Federal Inspector of Drugs, Islamabad inspected warehouse of a pharma company and seized 7 drugs on overpricing. Mr. Aamer Mehmood Kiyani, Federal Minister of Health along with Mr. Asim Rauf, Chief Executive Officer, DRAP, Mr. Amanullah, Director Pricing, Dr. Obaidullah Additional Director DRAP were present at the occasion. FID checked the prices of various medicines sold to distributors, retailers and patients and seized 7 medicines to be overpriced and registered cases against the manufacturer companies in accordance with Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan Act 2012, Drugs Act 1976 and rules framed thereunder. Federal Minister instructed DRAP to take strict action against the companies found involved in the overpricing/ unauthorized increase in the maximum retail price (MRPs) of their medicines. The unauthorized increase in the prices of medicine will not be tolerated. CEO DRAP informed that during market surveillance 284 cases have been registered against companies on overpricing throughout the country in last few days. DRAP has advised its inspectors to monitor manufacturers and market for overpricing on the medicines and process the cases as per law which recommends imposing heavy fines along with recovery of unauthorized increase in prices of medicines form the companies. *****
