Federal Minister National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kiani said we recognize the role of mothers in building a healthy nation. Mother and child is therefore on the top of our agenda in health. The first 1000 days in a child's life are of critical importance. Our mission is to provide best facilities to mother and child. It is in this context that a mother and child hospital is being established by the Ministry of National Health Services in Barakahu. The hospital will provide 24 hours gynae and obstetrics services to over 100,000 population of the area directly and 500,000 population from other areas indirectly. We have the support of SAARC through SAARC Development Fund in undertaking this project. While he was addressing stone laying ceremony for the establishment of first MNCH Hospital through SARRC Development fund at Bhara kahu. The 40 bedded mother and child hospital will have state of the art facilities. Work on the project has been initiated by Pak PWD which will be completed by 31st December 2019. We have vowed to make Islamabad a model city in health so that the same could be replicated in other parts of the country. In this context it may be recalled that only last month a model center for Infectious Diseases was established in Islamabad with free screening, diagnostic and treatment facilities. To cater to the needs of the residents of the city work on a General Hospital in Tarlai has been initiated. To improve monitoring and planning a District Health Information System has been established in ICT. A major initiative is being undertaken to establish new Basic Health Units and upgrade existing ones in Islamabad. Use of I.T. is being undertaken to provide ambulance service and for bed registry in Islamabad. Mother and Child Hospital was a demand of the inhabitants of the rural areas of Islamabad and its objective to lessen the ever increasing load of patients on the PIMS and Federal Government Poly Clinic Hospital in the urban area. On the occasion of World Health Day let me reiterate our commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage said Health Minister Aamir Mehmood Kiani.
