The Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Mr. Nicolae Goia duly acknowledged and highly applauded the positive role and sincere endeavours of the incumbent government in promoting and protecting the human rights in Pakistan. He extended this vote of applause during his meeting with the Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen M Mazari here in Islamabad on Wednesday. During the meeting, they exchanged views on protection of human rights including the rights of the women, children and minorities. Talking to the Ambassador, Dr Mazari said that we are vigilant in solving the issues and protecting the rights. She showed her commitment to ensure the provision of basic rights for every citizen in pursuance to the Constitution of Pakistan and international commitments adding that our Constitution guarantees the rights of our citizens without any prejudice. She reiterated her firm resolve to take all possible measures aiming to develop peace, harmony and tolerance in the society with guarantees of civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights. Dr Mazari also apprised the Ambassador about the steps for ensuring the promotion and protection of human rights in the country. She said besides implementation of existing laws we are devising new legislation and working on various bills including the Zainab Alert bill and Prohibition of Corporal Punishment bill to protect the rights of children, these bills have been approved by the cabinet and will be tabled in Parliament soon, she further added. Human Rights Minister also informed him about human rights situation in the country including implementation of laws and various related measures. She said besides the implementation of Hindu Marriage Act, the ministry had drawn up a new Christian divorce bill. She shared that awareness was very important for the implementation of laws and in this regard human rights ministry had started successful awareness drive about women’s right to inheritance including the awareness campaign to prevent child abuse. Dr Shireen Mazari thanked the Ambassador and assured her full support in the cause of human rights.
