“Vocational education combined with class room education can play a vital role for absorbing Pakistani youth in employment” stated Ambassador of Pakistan to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg H.E. Naghmana Alamghir Hashmi while addressing international conference on Dual Education in Pakistan at the European Parliament in Brussels, today. Ambassador Hashmi further said that the majority of Pakistan’s population is below the age of 30 years which is a big factor for opening up opportunities for vocational training institutions on the pattern of German Dual Education, which combines vocational training and classroom education”, says a press release received here today from Brussels. The conference was co-hosted by the members of the European Parliament from the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR), Baroness Nosheena Mobarik CBE and Mr. Bernd Kölmel. The conference gave experts, decision-makers and interested parties an opportunity to present their experiences and exchange information regarding vocational education in Pakistan, along with examples of good practices. In their opening remarks MEPs Baroness Nosheena Mobarik and Mr. Bernd Kölmel explained about the dual educational system in Germany, which combines vocational training and formal education and has a successful record of preparing students for vocational occupations. Both the public and private sectors in Pakistan have expressed an interest in learning more about how aspects of the German dual education system could be applied to vocational education programmes in Pakistan. Experts gave detailed presentations on the possibilities of incorporating vocational education in Pakistan on pattern of Germany. Pakistani and international experts who made presentations on the occasion included Mr Shahid Hussain, CEO of Service Sales Corporation Ltd. Pakistan, Dr. Shahid Mahmud Chairman and CEO of Interactive Group of Companies, Pakistan Mr Sardar Nayab Gohar Chief Operating Officer and Board Member of TÜV Rheinland Arabia, Saudi Arabia Ms Gertrud Hirtreiter of German Confederation of Skilled Crafts, ZDH, Mr. Thomas Hochleitner of Department Vocational Education Bavaria and Mr Erik Swars of Swiss Federal Institute of Vocational Education. Dr. Shahid Mahmud and Mr. Shahid Hussain highlighted the challenges and opportunities in Pakistan as well as the possible solutions in terms of policy. The opportunities for possible pilot projects and future cooperation between German, British, and Pakistani institutions in the implementation of Dual Education systems were also discussed.
