Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui called on CEO Smart Dubai Wesam Al Abbas Lootah in Dubai and discussed digital transformation of governance in Pakistan and to expedite progression in this regard. Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui on his way back from Barcelona, Spain after attending the GSMA Ministerial Programme at the World Congress, 2019 had brief stopover at Dubai. During meeting with Mr. Lootah, Federal Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui shared the different initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication in Pakistan for digitalizing the government systems and processes. He appreciated the vision of top leadership of Dubai and the UAE government for taking extraordinary measures in the exemplary transformation of Dubai governance system. The Federal Minister said that the experience and knowledge base of Smart Dubai can help the government of Pakistan to improve and expedite the digital transformation process in the country. Journey of the government of Dubai towards Digital Transformation and how it helped them in optimizing government operations as well as citizen facilitation was also discussed during the meeting. Mr. Lootah informed Dr. Siddiqui that the drive for E-governance had started back in 2002 in Dubai with a vision to transform public services in to digital ecosystems. While sharing the digital transformation experience of Dubai government, Mr. Lootah explained that, in the first phase of digital transformation of governance, which spanned over a period of slightly more than a decade, all public services, back office operations and transactional systems were brought under the umbrella/portal of “dubae.ae”. In second phase of transformation, all the services offered over the web portal were additionally migrated over a smart mobile application and more facilitative portal called “Dubai Pulse” was introduced for offering single window facilitation to the citizens for all types of utilities and public services. The meeting concluded on an understanding of furthering the cooperation between Smart Dubai and Ministry of IT & Telecom for knowledge sharing and capacity building initiatives as a kick-starter.
