Federal Minister for Railways Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed arrived in Tehran today on three day official visit to Iran. Minister Rashid is also carrying messages from the Prime Minister and President of Pakistan for the Iranian leadership. This afternoon Minister Rashid held a productive meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Minister of Roads & Urban Development Muhammad Eslami. Minister Sheikh Rashid will also be calling on President Rouhani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamanei to deliver messages from Pakistan’s leadership, says a press release received from Tehran here today. During his meeting with Iranian Minister for Roads & Urban Development several issues relating to bilateral cooperation in the field of railways between the two countries were discussed. Upgradation of the Taftan-Quetta rail track as well as connection between Taftan and Mirjaveh were discussed. The Iranian side showed interest in collaborating with Pakistan in this field. Federal Minister Rashid invited Iran to participate in the bidding process for the Taftan-Quetta Railway Sector (ML 2) to which the Iranians showed an interest. Iranian side informed that Iran Railways is also improving its track from Zahedan to Mirjaveh. Federal Minister Sheikh Rashid was also given a detailed briefing on the Iranian rail network and technology by the Iranian Railway department. *****
