PR No. 166 LAW MINISTER CALLS FOR INTERNATIONAL-PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION WITH TURKEY Islamabad: February 26, 2019

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Dr. Barrister Farogh Naseem has called for an International-Public Partnership with Turkey in the field of education. He was talking to a delegation of Turkish Maarif Foundation led by Prof. Dr. Birol Akgun, a close aide of President Erdogan, on Tuesday at the Law Ministry. The Law Minister told the delegation that a partnership to train and equip teachers and teaching staff in collaboration with Turkey will strengthen the relations between the two countries in the field of education. He said we can take this realtionship further by forging partnership to establish relations in the field of science and technology. Turkey can help Pakistan establish laboratories, libraries and universities. He further suggested that Turkey can even start Sufi Thought Programs for students in Pakistan who have a keen interest in Philosophy and teachings of Maulana Rumi and Shams Tabriz. He said Law Ministry will extend its full support with the help of a committee of experts to devise the details for these projects. He said Pakistan has a lot of potential and by investing in Pakistan; Turkey will in fact be strengthening itself, as in the International Community, Turkey will be fully supported by an able brotherly country; i.e. Pakistan. The Law Minister said that he would invite Maarif Foundation to have a wider reach of Maarif Schools, Colleges and even Universities in Pakistan. He said investing in education is the key to prosperity and cited that the foundation of Quran and Islam is IQRA. He said we would welcome the establishment of Medical Universities in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta in collaboration with the Turkish Government. He said we share beliefs and values and there are a lot of similarities in Turkish and Urdu language and Pakistanis consider the Turkish President Erdogan as an elder brother. Prof. Dr. Birol Akgun thanked the Law Minister for Pakistan’s decision to hand over the administration of Pak-Turk Schools to Maarif Foundation. He said Turkey is willing to invest in high quality education in Pakistan and Turkish Universities are open to Pakistani students. He said he and his team are working with the school teachers under Maarif Foundation to resolve their issues and address their concerns. He said the ties in the fields of culture and education are being strengthened between the two brotherly countries. Dr. Birol also thanked the Law Minister on behalf of Turkish Minister for Justice, Mr. Abdulhamit Gul and told the Law Minister an invitation from his Turkish counterpart would soon be extended to him. He further told Dr. Farogh Naseem that Turkey has made huge advances in e-governance to improve service efficiency and is also willing to help Pakistan in this regard. He was accompanied by Mr. Mustafa Caltili, Osman Demirgul and Mr. Selahattin Batur (Countru Head of Turkish Maarif Foundation).
