PR No.8 Kashmir Solidarity Day Conference Organized by Pakistan Embassy in Brussels. Islamabad: February 2, 2019

To express solidarity with the People of Indian Occupied Kashmir the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels organized a conference in Brussels, says a press release received from Brussels here today. In the conference that took place at the Press Club Brussels Europe, an association of Belgian and international journalists, solidarity with the people of Kashmir was expressed by members of the European and Belgian parliaments, human rights activists and scholars who highlighted the 70 years long struggle of people of Kashmir for the right to self-determination. The speakers drew world attention to the atrocities being committed by the Indian forces of occupation to suppress this struggle resulting into human rights violations of worst kind in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The notable speakers who expressed their views on this occasion included Member European Parliament Maria Arena, Member European Parliament Wajid Khan Belgian Senator Mampaka Bertin, Member Brussels Parliament, Dr Manzoor Zahoor, Belgian Human Rights Activist Andy Vermaut, Student leader of KU Leuven Wim Knaepen, Councilor Amir Naeem and Deputy Head of Mission Asif Memon. The speakers called upon European Union to play an active role, in its capacity as flag bearer of human rights around world, to stop human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir, where innocent people were being massacred and the women and children were not being spared from the brutalities by 700,000 Indian security forces deployed in IOK. The Speakers called for conducting inquiry by the international bodies like United Nations, into gross human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir. The Deputy Head of Mission Asif Memon reiterated Pakistan’s stance that it will continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri people in their just struggle until they achieve the legitimate right to self- determination as acknowledged by the United Nations Security Council Resolutions. The Government of Pakistan condemns in the strongest terms the violation of fundamental human rights including the basic right to life as enshrined in the international covenants and international customs, he added. On 15th December 2018 , Indian occupation forces once again unleashed a horrific blood bath in the Indian occupied Kashmir , martyring more than 14 innocent civilians and injuring over 300 protestors in Pulwama including a 13 year old student of 8th grade Aqib Bhat. In view of deteriorating situation in Indian occupied Kashmir the Foreign Minister of Pakistan wrote letters to the UN Secretary General, OIC Secretary General and the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights asking for the urgent establishment of the OHCHR commission of Inquiry. A documentary film on the violations of human rights in Indian occupied Kashmir and a video on the brutal use of pallet guns by the Indian forces of occupation were also screened. The Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels and Pakistani diaspora in Belgium and Luxembourg are observing Kashmir Solidarity Week from 1st February. Today’s Conference was part of the week. The Embassy has also arranged a photographic exhibition of Human Rights Violations in Kashmir at its premises, which will continue for one week. Several activities will be organized by the Pakistani community residing in Belgium and Luxembourg during the week.
