His Excellences Mr. Jiang Jianguo, Dy. Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, His Excellency Mr. Sun Weidong Ambassador of China, Mr. Zhang Fuhai, President of China International Publishing Group, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed Chairman of Pakistan China Institute.

Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen!

It is a matter of great pleasure for me to be here at this ceremony for the launch of the Urdu addition of the “Governance of China” authored by President Xi Jinping.

President Xi is China’s great leader, a towering statesman of our times, and above all a steadfast friend of Pakistan.

The rich content of this book is both enlightening and inspiring as President Xi shares his reflections and thoughts with wisdom, empathy and kindness.

What has touched me most is that this book is not just about high politics but also about moving stories of common people, their lives and aspirations about hard work and family values.

In our times the peaceful development of China has stimulated peaceful rise of the entire world.

This book is as much about our contemporary world as it is about China. This book is as much about ‘Chinese Dream’, as it is about a global dream to have a peaceful, harmonious and connected world. This dream for development and fulfillment resonates all around the world; as also in Pakistan.

From this book, we learn how China has transformed itself in the last four decades by evolving a system that puts people’s needs first, nurtures rule of law, and modernizes its economy and governance, with tremendous speed and precision. It enlightens us how China embraces and leads the information revolution and works towards protecting environment. I like president Xi’s wise council and I quote “to meet our development goals, we must enrich ourselves not only materially but culturally and ethically as well.”

The book powerfully captures the rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation while adhering to the doctrine of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It is true that Chinese experience of governance and development is unique but it’s successful corporate practices have universal applications too. The lesson learnt here is that like China other nations too should build their development model in harmony with their own national characteristics.

China is now a global power and a global leader. President Xi demonstrates how important it is to forge peaceful relations as a pre cursor for strong economic ties between neighbors, within region and across the continents.

China’s concept of peaceful development and envisages secure, prosperous and friendly neighborhoods. This coincides with Pakistan’s own endeavors to foster a culture of peace and regional and international relations that avoid strife and explores all avenues for cooperation.

Together we must share and propagate success. And that should be the spirit of our times and that is the theme that permeates president Xi’s seminal work.

This is not the time for fueling ideological warfare of fomenting divisions. Now we have this historic opportunity to address apprehensions of our neighbors, to practice non-interference, to build confidence and to use all instruments of diplomacy to resolve conflicts peacefully. In this regard, multilateral institutions specially the United Nations should play a more active role to eliminate poverty worldwide to empower people and to fight the existing and emerging threats of terrorism and violent extremism. This is the time to herald a new, just financial order that reflects and promotes the interests of all, not of a select few.

We welcome President Xi’s ideas on these important contemporary issues.

Pakistan and China enjoy a special and strategic partnership. We have applauded and endorsed the launch of the historic One Belt, One Road initiative.  We are proud that together with China, we are implementing its flagship mega project- the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). People ask what is the secret ingredient of this phenomenal undertaking? And we say it is the true friendship and mutual trust between China and Pakistan.

As we move towards the completion of early harvest projects under CPEC in port development, infrastructure, energy, industry and telecommunication, Pakistan is fast becoming both a conduit and a destination for regional commerce and investment. Pakistan is developing into a connective node of multiple neighborhoods. And we are determined to realize the full potential of this miracle with the staunch support of our trusted ally and partner China.

The CPEC is a symbol and icon for togetherness. It threatens no one; it will benefit all, most of all common people who will, Insha Allah, see a boom in jobs and businesses, and positive change in their lives. We are glad that the entrepreneurs from the developed countries have shown confidence in CPEC and a keen interest to invest in Pakistan. This model, I am sure needs to be replicated and emulated in other regions.

President Xi‘s vision includes several other corridors that would connect Asia, Africa and Europe and, in fact, the entire world. I would say: Let’s build on this successful experiment in cooperation and connectively and propagate its merits.

We cherish President Xi’s unfailing love and affection for Pakistan which he showed when he visited Pakistan two years ago and on many other occasions.

We congratulate him and the Chinese nation on the publication of this seminal work “The Governance of China”.

I am very happy to see my dear old friend Mr. Mushahid Hussain who has been a flag bearer of Pakistan-China friendship for a long time. Mushahid has done admirable work in clearing some of the misperceptions about the CPEC project in purely national interest. People like him who can rise above political considerations and focus on a national development agenda are an asset. I am sure that Mr. Mushahid Hussain will continue his good work.
