PR No. 98 UMRA-INDUCED PASSPORT DATA SURGE WILL BE CLEARED BY NEXT WEEK: DGIP Islamabad: October 12, 2018

Directorate General of Immigration & Passport (DGIP) has stated that passports applied with urgent category are being printed and delivered within due time. However, an unusual data surge in recent days has resulted in 2-3 days’ delay in delivery of passports applied with normal fee. The data surge has resulted from an on-going Umra season as passports applications from across the country and around the world have shown tremendous hike since after Eid-ul-Azha. In order to deal with this situation, the DGIP has taken extra-ordinary measures. For instance, the number of printing shifts has been increased from two to four and additional hardware and human resource has been provided to overcome production shortfall. Besides, weekly holidays, Saturdays & Sundays, have been notified as working days till the attainment of production normalcy. A senior dedicated officer has also been tasked to optimize the production output. The situation will be normalized by next week, the DGIP assures.
