Australian Ambassador for Women while appreciating the steps and efforts of the Government of Pakistan for successful legislation to ensure the human rights including the rights of women, children and minorities, has said that incumbent Govt especially ministry of Human Rights was very vigilant and active in solving the issues and protecting the rights of women and minorities in particular. Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen M Mazari has said that we are committed to not only protect the rights of women and minorities abut also makes them economically sound, which is our top priority. She was talking to the visiting Australia’s Ambassador for Women and Girls, Dr Sharman Stone along with the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ms Margaret Adamson who called on her in Islamabad on Monday. High officials of the ministry were also among the attendants. They exchanged views on gender equality and protection of Human Rights especially the rights of women and girls. Human Rights Minister apprised the Australian Ambassador for Women about the steps to ensure the promotion and protection of Human Rights particularly the rights of women, children and minorities. She said we are working on three further bills including Anti Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention & Punishment) Bill 2018, Pakistan Rights of Persons with Disability Bill, 2018 and Prohibition of Corporal Punishment Bill, 2018 adding that the draft of the bills has been forwarded to the Law Ministry for vetting and further process to present before the cabinet. She also informed about prevailing Human Rights situation in the country including implementations of laws, policy and measures. Shireen Mazari said besides the implementation of Hindu Marriage Act, the ministry had drawn up a new Christian divorce bill for the National Assembly. The Australia’s Ambassador for women and High Commissioner to Pakistan appreciated the endeavours of government especially the Ministry of Human Rights for the Protection and promotion of Human Rights and sucessful awareness drive about Women’s right to inheritance and Minister assured her full support in this regard. *** ?
