Health Minister Saira Afzal Tarar is in Geneva and campaigning for Pakistan’s candidate for the position of Director General of World Health Organisation being held in Geneva on 23rd May. In separate sessions she addressed the ambassadors and permanent representatives of the americas, south east asian countries, western pacific countries and member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference. She shared that Pakistan candidate Dr. Sania Nishter on merit is the most qualified for the position. She said today the world is confronted with major challenges in the area of disease control and prevention. Global leader of WHO must be equipped with the knowledge and experience to address the current and future challenges.

Dr. Sania Nishter is a thought leader, a civil society icon, a public policy leader, a former health minister and top public health professional. Having served on several WHO boards she has a clear understanding of the challenges and can work closely with organisations across the world in pooling technical and financial resources to make a real difference.
