The Ambassador of Republic of Azerbaijan Mr Ali Alizada called on National Security Adviser Lt. General ( R ) Nasser Khan Janjua this morning. Besides security and defence, multiple areas pertaining to the promotion of bilateral relations came under discussion. NSA warmly welcomed the guest and said that Pakistan attaches great importance to relations with Azerbaijan as these relations are based on strong mutual trust and respect. He also said that since the inception of Azerbaijan, Pakistan was one of those countries that not only recognized it immediately but also supported in every aspect at every world forum. The Ambassador said that Azerbaijan enjoys cordial and warm relationship with Pakistan and expressed his desire to expand the spectrum of cooperation further. He also highlighted the fact that the two countries shared views on major regional and international issues concerning peace and security. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s support to Azerbaijan’s stand on the issue of Nagorno Karabakh which is being occupied by Armenia. He said that Azerbaijan fully supports Pakistan’s stand on Kashmir calling for implementation of UN Security Council Resolution. Azerbaijan is also the member of OIC Contact Group on Jammu & Kashmir. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the level and substance of growing bilateral engagements between the two Countries. The two sides also discussed ways and means to further improve cooperation in defence and security. The Ambassador extended invitation to NSA to preside a seminar on “Crime against Humanity: Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing” scheduled to be held on 20 February 2018 in Islamabad.
