Over the past three years, NAVTTC has trained thousands of young boys and girls under Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program (PMYSDP) which helped them earn respectful livelihood and support their families. This was said by the executive director NAVTTC, Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, while speaking at an event to distribute tool kits among young students who had just completed training in various disciplines under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development programme here at Kashmir House.
Our country’s progress depends on the skilled human resource and especially on the persons having technical expertise in various demand driven fields, he emphasized. NAVTTC has played a role of big brother to the provincial TEVTAs and helped them to upgrade their workshops and laboratories, revise curriculum, ensure training delivery and train their instructors, he added.
It is very unfortunate that for more than six decades, we ignored development of our skill sector but now we have realized our mistake and are engaged day and night to revive this sector, said Cheema.
Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema said that training according to job market demand was of immense importance. He said that if we make our youth skilled then they would become an asset more precious than oil and gold. He advised the students to focus on their training and assured them that they will be provided with a loan to the tune of Rs. 1 Lac under Prime Minister’s loan scheme to help them set up their own businesses. NAVTTC has designed their modules on modern methods and the curriculum has also been updated and made at par with international standards. He said skill competitions have been a huge success in creating awareness and increasing interest of our youth towards skill sector which has helped a great deal in reducing stigma attached with this sector. Moreover, if development of skill sector becomes priority for our government and stakeholders then it will surely change the destiny of our nation, he stressed.
As many as 140 students received tool kits on the occasion. Before that they came on stage and shared their success stories with the audience about how they are now able to support their families after setting up their small scale businesses.
