PR No.39 Islamabad

The Embassy of Pakistan Berlin hosted the Defense of Pakistan Day reception, to mark golden jubilee of 1965 Pakistan-India war. The event was attended by a large number of high level officials from the German defense establishment, Federal Foreign Office and other ministries. More than 60 countries were represented by their Ambassadors and Defense Corps, says a press release received here today from Berlin.

Ambassador Syed Hasan Javed in his remarks, paid homage to the valiant soldiers of Pakistan, especially national heroes such as Air Commodore M. M. Alam, who defeated the enemy’s hegemonic designs and set a world record by destroying five air crafts in a minute, during the 1965 Pakistan-India war. While reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, he underlined that our armed forces have the capability to deter any threat to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Calling for a peaceful and lasting resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute, he observed that the plight of the Kashmiris living in the largest “concentration zone” in the world is a direct challenge to the credibility of the United Nations, at its 70th birthday. He added that Germany having suffered devastation in two world wars knows best the importance of shared values of justice, tolerance, co-existence, peace and freedom.

The Defense and Army Attaché, Brig. Moin Ud Din Ghazali, in his speech paid glowing tributes to those national heroes who by rendering extraordinary sacrifices during the 17- day war against India, proved that willpower of the soldiers and not their numbers, determine the outcome of war. Referring to the huge price paid by Pakistan in the last 35 years as a front line state, for peace and freedom of the world, he lamented that while our armed forces are currently engaged in fighting militancy and extremism in the tribal region of the country, our Eastern neighbor is repeatedly violating ceasefire along the Line of Control and Working Boundary. He urged the international community to take notice of the belligerent behavior of India, which can escalate tensions in the region. He also referred to Pakistan’s relentless support to the UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) along the LoC since 1949, as compared to India, which has been obstructing its mission in Kashmir.

The guests were shown documentaries on Pakistan’s vibrant society, growing economy and fast developing defense production industry. In the end, the guests were served traditional Pakistani cuisine.
