PR No. 258 Federal And KPK Government To Jointly Take The Net Hydel Profit To CCI Islamabad: December 30, 2015

A meeting of the delegation led by Chief Minister Khyber  Pakhtoonkhwa, Mr. Pervaiz Khattak and Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja  Muhammad Asif was held here today to discuss matters relating to the net hydel profit of KPK, Federal Government assistance in establishment of small Hydel Projects in KPK and assistance of KPK government in recoveries from electricity defaulters and action against theft.

Mr. Riaz Hussain Peerzada, Minister for inter provincial government coordination also participated in the meeting.

Secretary Ministry of Water and Power, Mohammad Younus Dagha, Senior officials of the Ministry of Water and Power & Ministry of Finance and Energy Department KPK were present during the meeting.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the progress made on uncapping of NHP after agreement reached in the previous meeting. The meeting commended the Ministry of Water and Power for taking the matter to the NEPRA for determination of tariff and increase of NHP from previous Rs. 6 billion to 18 Billion.

The meeting decided that both the Ministry of Water and Power and KPK government will take the matter to CCI for final decision as required by NEPRA in its determination of new tariff.

The meeting also decided that both sides will jointly work out a comprehensive plan for determination of the period and volume of outstanding amount of NHP and the same will decided after taking all stakeholder onbaord.

The Chief Minister KPK thanked the Minister for Water and Power and his team for providing all out assistance in the determination of higher rates for NHP.

On a positive note the meeting also agreed that KPK government will provide all out assistance to the PESCO in the recovery of arrears and current bills. An effective campaign shall be launched against the elements involved in power theft. This will bring the load shedding hours down to the average load shedding in the country.

The meeting also decided to nominate Secretary Energy Department on the BoD of PESCO to give the Provincial government more representation in affairs of PESCO.

The Federal Minister for Water and Power assured the meeting that Ministry of Water and Power will sensitize local and international investors for establishment of small hydel projects.  He asked the Chief Minister KPK to coordinate possible sites for such projects so that the Ministry of Water and Power facilitate potential investors.
