A delegation comprising representatives of textile industry held a meeting with the Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Isahq Dar, here and apprised him of the problems faced by the value added sector.
SAPM on Revenue, Haroon Akhtar, Parliamentary Secretary on Finance, Rana Muhammad Afzal and Chairman FBR, Nisar Mohammad Khan were also present in the meeting.
The delegation informed the Minister that shortage of gas was the most critical problem faced by the textile value added sector which had impaired level of production and consequently led to decreased exports and diminished foreign exchange earnings. They were of the view that the shortage of gas could be met through provision of imported LNG at a reasonable price.
The delegation also requested for restructuring of bank loans and their repayment on easy installments, which they said would highly facilitate the value added sector.
Members of the delegation while referring to the issue of GST refunds, appreciated the measures being taken by the government.
The Finance Minister stated that textile sector was the most important foreign exchange earner and it would be facilitated in every possible manner to perform at optimum level.
The Minister set up a special committee headed by the SAPM, Haroon Akhtar to take stock of the issues raised by the delegation and suggest remedial measures. The Committee also includes key representatives of the textile industry.
