PR No. 176PPL Operated Joint Venture Discovers Oil In Punjab Islamabad: December 17, 2015

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) the Operator of the Block 2271-15 (Dhok Sultan) EL along with its Joint Venture Partner Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL), has announced the discovery of Oil and Gas in its exploration well Dhok Sultan X-1 located in District Attock, Punjab Province.

Dhok Sultan X-1 was spud-in on 25 December, 2014 and reached the final depth of 5,827 meters on 7 November, 2015. Based on wireline log data, a hydrocarbon bearing zone was identified within the Lockhart Formation, which was tested and flowed 468 Bbls/day Oil along with 0.617 MMscfd Gas at 20/64” choke, thus confirming the presence of oil and gas at Dhok Sultan X-1. This is the deepest oil discovery in Pakistan and has opened up a new play in the western Potwar area.

After completion of the well, an acid stimulation is planned to be carried out which is expected to increase the flow rates. This discovery will add to the hydrocarbon reserves of PPL and GHPL, in addition to reducing the current energy crisis in the country.
