PR No. 173State Minister Urged Civil Society To Partake Their Input In Law Reforms Islamabad: December 17, 2015

Two day National consultation on “ Possibilities and opportunities for Legal pluralism in Pakistan kicked off here today. State Minister for Human Rights Zafarullah Khan has inaugurated the session that would huddle together to put forward their recommendations for drafting alternate Dispute Resolution Bill (ADR).

Experts from civil society and legal fraternity participated in the two day moot began with the collaboration of Government of Pakistan, German Cooperation and Community Appraisal and motivation programme (CAMP)

Minister of State for Human Rights Zafarullah Khan asserted that Jirga and Panchayat System as Tools of Alternate Dispute Resolution have been practicing in Pakistan as the quick, cheap and easy means for the settlement of civil/criminal disputes and for quick dispensation of justice in villages and underdeveloped parts of the country but sometimes there are violations of Human Rights.

Minister of State further added that we are committed to bring reforms in the existing laws concerning women, children and minorities to address their vulnerability to injustice and violation of their rights.

Zafarullah Khan urged the members of civil society to come forward with their recommendations and assist the Government in institutionalizing law and reforms in Pakistan.

“We have the open policy for eliciting feedback from all quarters of civil society.” He said.

The overall objective of the National Consultation is to solicit views of relevant stakeholders to highlight the needs of poor in marginal class in the society to have easy and cheap access to justice without violation of rights.

Moreover, Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme (CAMP) is a national non-profit and non-government organization established with the aim of responding to emergencies, improving access to quality health and education, creating livelihood opportunities and working closely with communities and government departments to promote human rights, peace and security.
