PR No.292 Meeting Of The Prime Minister Of Pakistan With The British Prime Minister Malta

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister David Cameron had a very useful and constructive meeting today on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), currently being held in Malta.

During the course of their warm and friendly meeting, the Prime Minister underscored that our two countries enjoy historic ties and Pakistan considers the United Kingdom, a close friend and a trusted partner.

During the exchange on the regional situation, Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s readiness to play its constructive role in facilitating the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan, because Pakistan strongly believes in peace and stability of the entire region.

As regards security situation, the Prime Minister highlighted that his country had made notable gains in its counter terrorism campaign. He said that the ongoing military operation “Zarb-e-Azb” launched by his Government last year has met with a considerable success and that we will not rest till this menace is eliminated from our soil. .

The Prime Minister also expressed confidences that Heart of Asia Conference being held in Islamabad on 9th December 2015 will significantly contribute to furthering peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Cameron said that the United Kingdom places high importance on relations with Pakistan. He praised Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and lauded the economic progress achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The two leaders also discussed at length Commonwealth related issues and agreed to work together to promote its core values.

At the talks, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Adviser Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
