PR No. 154Message From The Acting President On The Occasion Of First Anniversary Of Army Public School Peshawar Attack Islamabad: December 15, 2015

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we mark the first anniversary of horrific terrorist attack on innocent children of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar to pay tribute to our martyred children whose supreme sacrifices strengthened the nation’s resolve to stamp out the scourge of terrorism and extremism from the country. The day reminds us of those terrible moments when terrorists, seeped in their hideous ideology, went on a senseless killing spree by opening fire on children and teachers of the army-run school in one of the deadliest attacks in the country’s history.

The appalling and horrendous attack did not deter the resolve of the nation but instead breathed a new life to national unity and solidarity which brought the whole spectrum of political and military leadership onto one platform in fight against dark forces of extremism and terrorism. Resultantly, National Action Plan was chalked out with complete unanimity of all the stakeholders to root out the menace of terrorism once and for all from our soil. It is a matter of great satisfaction that National Action Plan is progressing successfully and producing fruitful results as terrorists with their abettors, financiers and handlers are being hunted down in various areas of the country and being meted out due punishment. Operation Zarb-e-Azb with complete support of the nation has broken the back of terrorists and is in its final phases.

On this day, our hearts and thoughts go out to the martyrs of APS and their families. Let us resolve that the sacrifices of the APS martyrs would not go waste and we would not rest until the last terrorist is eliminated from our beloved homeland. The day calls for sending a powerful message that our children are not frightened and they are more determined than ever to end the ignorance of nefarious dark forces bent on creating fissures in the fabric of our society.

Let us reaffirm our commitment that the blood of innocence would not go in vain as we, as a nation, trounce the evils of terrorism and extremism and earn our rightful place in the comity of nations as a peaceful, prosperous, educated and a civilized country.
