PR No. 148Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif And Premier Li Keqiang Hold Bilateral Meeting In China Zhengzhou: December 15, 2015

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Premier Li Keqiang inZhengzhou, China here today.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister congratulated the Chinese Premier on hosting successfully the 14th SCO Heads of Government Council Meeting.The Prime Minister said Pakistan valued SCO’s role and was grateful that with China’s support, Pakistan is being accepted as a full member of SCO.

The Prime Minister  also congratulated the Chinese leadership and Communist Party on IMF’s approval of Chinese yuan as global reserve currency and said that it was an important milestone in the integration of Chinese economy into the global financial system and recognition of China as a major financial power.

On bilateral relations, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan and China are celebrating the “ Year of Friendly Exchanges,” and the next year will be the  65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. We should take this opportunity to further promote people to people contacts, said the Prime Minister.

On China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said he is satisfied with the progress on the CPEC projects. Pakistan wants all the projects under CPEC to be implemented in a timely and efficient manner, the Prime Minister stated. The progress achieved by handing-taking over of Gwadar Port Free Zone is a good beginning for initiating the process of building the economic zone,he stated.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that providing security to our Chinese brothers working in Pakistan on various projects is of paramount importance to us. We have established a Special Security Division (SSD).

On counter-terrorism and security issues, he apprised Chinese Premier that military operation “Zarb-e-Azb,” in FATA and National Action Plan are being successfully implemented in the country.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif apprised Premier Li Keqiang of successful holding of the Heart of Asia Ministerial Conference inIslamabad last week where President Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan visited and jointly inaugurated the conference.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also apprised the Chinese Premier of his recent meeting with Indian Prime Minister in Paris and subsequent visit of Indian Foreign Minister to Islamabad, for the Heart of Asia Ministerial Conference, that have yielded encouraging results. Both countries have agreed to resume the comprehensive bilateral dialogue, which is a welcome development, the Prime Minister stated.

During the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang said that Pakistan and China were close friends, close neighbors and good partners. Our friendship has flourished over the years. While expressing satisfaction over progress in CPEC, Premier Li said that China will extend full support to the implementation of agreed projects and help Pakistan build its industrial capacity.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also extended an invitation to Chinese Premier to visit Pakistan.
