PR No.98 Call On By Minister Of Education Belarus Mikhail Zhuravkov To Minister Of Federal Education Engr Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman Today Islamabad

An MOU has been signed between the two ministers and later Minister of Education Belarus visited Minister of Federal Education at his office today.

Minister for State welcomed Minister of Education Belarus, both the ministers discussed educational matters of both the countries. Minister of State said that both the nations are coming closer by this current visit of Belarus which is a first step towards log term friendship between the two countries. He further said Belarus is a new opening for Pakistani students and this should not go wasted at any cost.

Talking about the education, both the ministers showed keen interest in short term student exchange programs which would familiarize them with each others’ educational system. We need to identify the needs of the students of both countries and then identify the areas in which this exchange program can be planned. Moreover they talk about special fee structure for the students of both the countries in which they would be given some discounts in order to encourage them to study in both the countries.

Both the minister were of the view that instead of making general agreements some concrete agreements between the universities of both the countries should also be made. For that they proposed to have a joint vice chancellors conference soon in which universities will chalk out the details of student exchange in both countries. They also talked about recognizing each other’s universities’ degrees, as it is very important. Further they agreed upon opening culture centers as mentioned by the Prime Minister of Pakistan today, in which people would be able to learn about the cultures and traditions of both countries.

In the end, Minister of State said that it’s high time that we start implementing these MOUs because without implementation there is no point of having these documents in our closets.

Meeting was attended by Federal Secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Education Advisor and Chairman HEC.
