PR No.92 Federal Minister For Industries & Production Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi Meets With Recently Appointed Ambassador Of France H.E. Martine Dorance Islamabad

The Federal Minister for Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi met with recently appointed H.E. Martine Dorance in his office in Islamabad today. The Minister cordially welcomed Mrs. Dorance and hoped that Pakistan and France can bring bilateral relations to a new frontier under her leadership.

Speaking about the French automobile industry, the Ambassador said that many French companies were interested in investing and settings up assembly plants in Pakistan. She revealed that major interest was shown by Renault–Nissan Alliance, a Franco-Japanese strategic partnership between automobile manufacturers Renault, based in Paris, France, and Nissan, based in Yokohama, Japan, which together sell more than one in 10 cars worldwide. She suggested that concessions can be given in the start to new French entrants to which the Minister for Industries & Production agreed that specific concessions have been added as a strategy in the new Auto Policy 2015.

Mrs. Dorance also said that localization of spare parts by French companies could also be discussed to assist the infrastructure of French cars assembly. Mr. Jatoi also discussed the possibility of green technology and wind energy cooperation between both countries. The Ambassador said that a delegation of business people could be sent at the beginning of next year and stakeholders from specific sectors can meet their Pakistani counters parts on such visits.

Mr. Jatoi assured full cooperation of his Ministry and will help alleviate all hindrances to attract investment. The Minister for Industries & Production stressed that the Pakistani market has a high demand for smaller cars keeping in mind the income level of its people. He added that Pakistan is a strategic asset which can act as a hub to Asia for Western partners such as France.

The Secretary, Ministry of Industries & Production was also present in the meeting.
