PR No. 141Islamabad: December 14, 2015

Special Assistant to PM on Aviation, Mr. Shujaat Azeem has submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister, said Spokesman Aviation Division in a statement issued here this evening.

The Spokesman said Mr. Shujaat Azeem submitted his resignation in the wake of the observations of Supreme Court restraining him from taking “any independent decision” with regard to matters of the Aviation Division.

He said Mr. Shujaat Azeem had accepted this responsibility at the request of the Prime Minister on an honorary basis. He was not drawing any salary. The aim was to improve the working of the departments of this Division. Due to his efforts these departments underwent major overhaul and are providing better service to the people.

The interpretations being placed on the observations of the court by various vested interests are having an adverse bearing on the effective performance of his duties by Mr. Azeem. In these circumstances, he considered it appropriate to submit his resignation, the Spokesman said.

He further said that Mr. Shujaat Azeem would submit a full defence privately through his counsel. The court case will be defended and the allegations made against him vigorously contested.
