German Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser today called on Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan at Punjab House.

German Ambassador Ina Lepel and other senior officials from the two sides were also present during the meeting.

Pak-German bilateral relations, mutual cooperation between the two countries, Pak-EU Re-admission Agreement and regional situation was discussed during the meeting.

At the outset of the meeting, the German Special Representative congratulated the Government of Pakistan for holding successful heart of Asia Conference which she said reflected Government’s commitment to play its role towards peace, stability and development in the neighboring Afghanistan and the region.

The Interior Minister welcomed  Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser’s appointment as Special Representative and expressed the hope that she would be instrumental in not only further strengthening bilateral relations of the two countries but would her efforts would also result in greater role of Germany towards promoting peace and development in the region.

The Minister said that Pakistan values its friendly relations with Germany and wants to further strengthen this relationship in all possible areas and at all levels for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

Discussing Pak-EU Re-admission Agreement, the Interior Minister called for German support towards the efforts that Pakistan is making to check illegal immigration and human trafficking.  He said that the Government is committed to take strict action against human traffickers and against those who facilitate illegal movement of the people. Equally important for us is to ensure that our people are dealt as per law in the foreign lands.

The new policy vis-a-vis international NGOs also came under discussion. The Minister reiterated that the new policy is aimed at further strengthening Government-INGOs partnership.

Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser said that Germany values its friendly relations with the Government and the people of Pakistan and wants to further the existing equation in all possible areas for the mutual benefit of the two countries and this region.
