PR No. 79 National Education Assessment System is Planning National Achievement Test-2016 across Pakistan Islamabad: December 9, 2015

Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Engr. Muhammad Baleegh-ur-Rehman recently constituted a committee on “Revamping of NEAS” under chairmanship of Director General AEPAM, Mr. Muhammad Khan Khichi. As Pakistan is committed to meet its commitments towards “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we are trying to take all possible measures to achieve the most important goal of quality education. Evidence-based decisions and actions are the backbone of any education system.

Federal Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Mr. Hassan Iqbal had a meeting with high officials of Ministry, AEPAM and NEAS. National Coordinator NEAS Dr. Syed Kamal Shah gave a briefing about the recent efforts to uplift and strengthen the National Education Assessments System in Pakistan. It is worth mentioning here that NEAS is going to conduct National Achievement Test in April 2016 over a sample of 30,000 students from all federating units of Pakistan. Moreover, Pakistan is ready to participate in International “Trends in Math and Science Studies (TIMSS)” for the first time in the history of the country.

National Education Assessment System (NEAS) is the organization that was established with the objectives of informing Stakeholders (Policy makers, Curriculum developers, text book writers, teacher trainers etc.), monitoring standards, identifying correlates of achievement, directing teachers’ efforts and raising students’ achievement, knowing performance level in the world. The committee will submit its report to the State Minister for Federal Education and Professional training Engineer Muhammad Baleegh Ur Rehman soon.

Honorable Federal Secretary assured the National Coordinator NEAS of all possible support from the Ministry and expressed his hope to see NEAS functioning in a better way in near future.
