PR No.67 Islamabad: December 8, 2015

President Mamnoon Hussain has said that only a morally strong society can resist corruption and for this purpose we would have to revive the tradition of self-purification to lay the foundation of a vibrant society.

The President expressed these views while addressing the launching ceremony of the book “Maqamat” by Barrister Zafarullah Khan at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday.

The President stated that the creation of Pakistan was for revival of this cultural tradition wherein knowledge and civilization are reflection of great ideas of self and for this end Allama Iqbal had demanded a separate homeland for Muslims. The President said that for progress and stability of Pakistan it is necessary that we do not lose sight of this context and therefore it is the responsibility of the educational institutions to play an effective role in creating a blend of knowledge and self-purification. He stated that if tradition of love for books and acquiring wisdom is kept alive then the country would progress both socially and materially.

The President said that materialization of such a society dreamt by our elders is possible only through revival of “Deen” which could address the issues of our times and seek the blessings of Allah. He added that the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a shining example for us to emulate.

The President said that Barrister Zafarullah Khan’s book will help to revive the tradition of self-purification and appreciated that there are people in the government who uphold the tradition of self-purification along with material progress. The President opined that this cannot be accomplished without Ijtehad and without understanding the material and spiritual needs of the contemporary age.

Director Iqbal Academy Lahore and famous poet Ahmed Javed also addressed the ceremony.
