PR No.56 Call On The Special Assistant To The Prime Minister On Foreign Affairs By Undersecretary For Legal Affairs And Multilateral Relations, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Iraq Islamabad: December 7, 2015

Dr. Omar Al-Berzinji, Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Iraq, called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi, today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Al-Berzinji is currently visiting Pakistan to attend the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process Ministerial Conference, which is being held on 8-9 December 2015 in Islamabad.

The SAPM thanked the Government of Iraq for participating in the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process Ministerial Conference, which was reflective of Iraq’s interest in the regional peace and stability, as well as the friendly relations between the two countries. The Special Assistant emphasized that Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and was extremely concerned at the atrocities and destruction being carried out by the terrorist organizations, such as Daesh. He conveyed Pakistan’s support to the government and people of Iraq in their difficult times and commended Iraqi government’s efforts in the fight against terrorism.

Dr. Al-Berzinji lauded Pakistan’s initiative of organizing Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process Ministerial Conference, and thanked the Pakistani Government for extending its invitation to Iraq. He characterized terrorism as a global challenge that needed calibrated and concerted efforts by the international community, and added that the Iraqi Government would continue to support the international efforts aimed at tackling the menace of terrorism. He apprised the SAPM of political developments in Iraq as well as the steps being undertaken by the Iraqi Government and security forces to address the threat posed by Daesh.
