PR No. 85 Habib Metro Lines wins Polo Cup; CADD Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry distributes prizes Islamabad

Habib Metro Lines won the Jubilee Life Insurance Polo Cup by defeating Asean Polo Club in a hotly contested match by a narrow margin of 6-5. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) was the chief guest at the final who distributed prizes among the finalists.

Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony and talking to media, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that polo has become a popular sport in the city during the past few years. Pakistan has a great talent in the game as it is a traditional game in some parts of the country especially the northern areas. The Minister said that the polo ground in Islamabad is among the best in the world and the government will provide more facilities to popularize the game.

Five teams namely PBG-Kalabagh 4, Habib Metro Lines, Asean Polo Club, Dominion Polo Club and PAF Polo Club participated in the tournament which was played during the past week. Habib Metro Lines and Asean Polo Club having scored most points in the pool matches made it to the final.

The two teams consisted of seasoned as well as young emerging players who displayed outstanding skills in the final and earned the admiration of the audience which also comprised polo-loving foreign nationals residing Islamabad. Aon Rizvi, Ahmad Ali and Arslan Ahmad remained the focus of attention throughout the game with their superior technique.

Special prize was awarded to 15 year old player of Habib Metro Lines, Aon Rizvi who was also declared best player of the country last year.

Pakistan has two polo seasons in the country. The first season starts from February and lasts till June while the second one starts in September and continues till winters. This was the sixth tournament played at the Islamabad Polo Ground during the current season.
