The Federal Minister for Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi met with H.E. Mr. Vitaly Vovk, Minister for Industry of Belarus today in Islamabad. Both counterparts discussed investment and bilateral trade opportunities in various sectors of Industry in Pakistan. They also discussed preparation and details regarding the forth-coming official visit of the Prime Minister of Belarus.
Mr. Vovk revealed how investment and trade opportunities between both countries could be fully capitalized in the upcoming visit of the Belarusian Prime Minister. The Belarusian Minister said that investors from their country wanted to set up assembly plants for various products such as tractors, trucks, dumpers, complete range of agricultural technology & machinery, and several types of engines. Mr. Vovk further said that several parties were interested in provision of these products and could also provide the complete range of Euro II, III and IV compliant engines.
Other sectors in the discussions included the oil, transport, mining and tyres industries. The setting up of oil extracting equipment assembly plants were discussed as well. The Belarusian Minister added that an important role to transport goods across Pakistan would be played by the local railway infrastructure. The Belarusian delegation also revealed that they visited the Ministry of Mining and cement industries in Lahore.
As far as tyre production is concerned, Mr. Vovk said that their country could also produce tyres within Pakistan as per the specifications of the market and a cooperative strategy could be developed by both parties. The creation of education centres for vocational training related to the agricultural sector was also discussed. The Belarusian Minister also requested his Pakistani counterpart to send automobile stakeholders on visits to Belarus so that collaboration can be organized between local Belarusian automobile industry representatives. Mr. Vovk believes that automobile industry stakeholders will be able to better understand each other’s technical requirements and this will also expedite the actual implementation process.
Mr. Jatoi reciprocated his counterpart’s hopes that the signing of the ‘Road Map of Cooperation’ tomorrow will include all such industrial initiatives for a brighter future of teamwork between Pakistan and Belarus. The Pakistani Minister for Industries & Production stressed how 66% of Pakistan’s population relies on agriculture for its livelihood. He also said that modern agricultural technology is urgently needed by the people of Pakistan to boost crop yield. He added that such technological exchange will greatly benefit both Pakistan and Belarus. The Belarusian Minister for Industry cordially invited the Pakistani Minister for Industries & Production to visit Belarus. The Pakistani Minister for Industries & Production appreciated Mr. Vovk’s kind gesture and said that such cooperation is an opportunity to discover an unparalleled level of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Belarus.
The Secretary, Ministry of Industries & Production was also present in the meeting.
