PR No.44 “Revitalization Of Pharmacy Council Of Pakistan” Islamabad

Pharmacy profession to be given special importance in the health care system of Pakistan. Chairing meeting of the pharmacy council ofPakistan President of council stressed that the profession of pharmacy shall be uplifted to bring it equivalent to international standards. Restructuring of the council shall result in the proper recognition of the profession in the country.

Educational institutions imparting Pharmacy Education shall have to come to the international standards so that highly trained manpower can get better jobs in the country and internationally. It was also decided that amendments will be done in Pharmacy Act 1967 to meet the current challenges in the profession as already been deliberated.

Committee was constituted to study Pharmacy Strategic Framework and also develop a road map to build professional status of pharmacists.

Dr A.Q Javed Iqbal secretary of the pharmacy council informed the council members that State Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Mrs Saira Afzal Tarar has given directions that there shall be no compromise in the standards of education. She stressed that all the educational institutions have to upgrade their facilities if they have any deficiencies.

Issues regarding recognition of foreign degrees by the council were also discussed. It was also decided that PCP will sign a memorandum of understanding with Higher Education Commission.

Ayaz Ali Khan, representative of Pakistan Pharmacist Association welcomed the appointment of new president of the council and hoped that under his dynamic leadership Pharmacy Profession will touch new heights. All the members of the council appreciated the decision taken by Federal Government and thanked State Minister Mrs Saira Afzal Tarar and Federal Secretary Mohammad Ayub Sheikh to take keen interest in uplifting of this important
