PR No.32 Civil Society Demands Uniform Immunization Law Across Country Islamabad

Group of Civil Society activists through platform National Child Health Consortium (NCHC) signed and shared a Declaration with Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Advisor to CM on Health to support uniform legislation promoting Immunization as a basic right of all eligible children.

The National Child Health Consortium in its meeting in Lahore agreed to pass a declaration urging the policy makers to ensure the quality life of child with reference to the right protected in the Constitution of Pakistan, UN Conventions and UN declaration on Human Rights. Declaration also stated to mobilize political will to bring legislation to support an enabling environment where Immunization is seen as a right of every child.

Members of the NCHC through the Declaration seek, the Government to provide a platform to generate support and partnerships between civil society, media and Government at both levels, Federal and Provincial.

Mr. Wajih Akhtar convener, NCHC said that we have sent the Declaration to Khawaja Salman Rafiq for further deliberations. “The declaration was signed by members NCHC after detailed discussion on major clauses of the Mandatory Vaccination and protection of Human Rights Bill 2015 that was presented by Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq, Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio in the meeting of NCHC” he said.

The Bill suggested key persuasive clauses to build an enabling and facilitating environment that encourages parents to vaccinate their children against all vaccine preventable diseases. “Decline in polio cases this year is a positive but real success yet to be achieved through strengthening of Routine Immunization services and this can be made possible by making it a mandatory provision, he further added.

The Bill is currently with the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services and Regulations for Committee’s recommendations.
